  • Tip #1: Before you go in, eat. While getting a tattoo, your body’s sugar levels will dip, so to keep your blood sugar regulated, we recommend eating at least 1 hour before your appointment.

Tip #2: Avoid the sun. We will not and cannot tattoo on sunburnt skin.

Tip #3: Shower. If you haven't showered, you could increase the chance of dead skin cells, sweat, and dirt getting into the tattooed area, causing an infection.

Tip #4: Avoid drinking alcohol or taking pain relievers. Both thin your blood, which causes excessive bleeding and you could face serious health complications.

  • During your tattoo healing process, you may experience redness, swelling, and oozing for the first 24-48 hours. This is normal and these symptoms should improve significantly each day. Following this, during weeks 1 and 2, you may notice light scabbing and itchiness with your tattoo. It’s best to avoid picking, peeling, and scratching the skin. This could prolong your recovery and cause further injury.

  • After your session, your tattoo artist will wrap your fresh tattoo with a derm-adhesive bandage. A derm-adhesive bandage is a breathable adhesive bandage that can last up to 7 days. It reduces scabbing and the risk of scarring while preventing exposure to bacteria, dirt, and abrasion. You may shower with this bandage on, but avoid submerging your tattoo in water tubs or pools.

Keep your tattoo wrapped for at least 24 hours, but the longer the better. When it’s time to remove the bandage, wash your hands thoroughly before gently peeling back the wrap. Use warm water and fragrance-free soap to cleanse the area. Rinse well before lightly patting the skin dry. You might notice some ink running into the sink. This is just excess ink that’s come up through your skin. Continue to wash your tattoo once or twice a day, and moisturize your tattoo when needed.

It’s important to avoid tanning, swimming, and scratching your tattoo for 3-4 weeks. Doing so could risk infection and delay your recovery.
